Shoulder Season: The Same Europe, Half the Price

May, early June, September and October offer the best weather-to-price ratio anywhere on the continent.

Everyone books July and August. That's exactly why you shouldn't. In May and September, southern Europe has the same sunshine with temperatures you can actually walk in.

The savings compound: flights drop 20–40%, hotels drop 30–50%, and restaurants serve you like a neighbour instead of a tourist.

The sea is still warm. In Sardinia, Greece and southern Spain, September water is warmer than June — the Mediterranean acts like a storage heater.

Cities too: Rome in October is a different (better) city than Rome in August. Fewer lines, locals back in town, restaurants at full strength.

Watch one exception: Alpine and high-mountain destinations genuinely are best in July–August, when lifts and trails are all open.
